San José is the most important town in the area, and is located in an optimal place to get to know the park and very close to the famous virgin beaches of Mónsul and Los Genoveses. Here you can enjoy the tranquility of a town without giving up all the services of a tourist center. And if from time to time you miss the city, Almería is only 40 kilometers away.
Beaches
Find your perfect relaxation spot. The Cabo de Gata Natural Park has the largest concentration of virgin beaches in the Mediterranean. The Mónsul beaches and The Genoveses, internationally famous and the scene of numerous movies are a step from San José. Other well-known beaches are La Playa de los Muertos, La Cala del Plomo and La Cala de Enmedio near Aguamarga, el Playazo de Rodalquilar, Cala San Pedro, Cala Higuera or The Escullos. And if your thing is to get lost and walk a little, there are plenty of coves in which you will feel what it is like to be out of the world.

The Nature Park
38,000 practically virgin hectares, 50 kilometers of pristine coastline, 12,000 hectares of marine reserve. Everything for you, so that you can enjoy it, so that you feel that you have escaped from the world. You can go hiking, mountain biking, snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving, all-terrain excursions or simply contemplate its spectacular scenery.




Villages
The entire coastline of the Park is dotted with small fishing villages with white houses, which despite the summer pull of tourism, retain their seafaring essence. Just 2 kilometers from the coast is Rodalquilar, a charming town with a somewhat different appearance, probably due to its mining past. Inside, Nijar, Famous for its artisan products, it hasn't changed much over time and retains its primitive moorish structure of narrow, labyrinthine alleyways.




The desert of Tabernas
About 50 kilometers from San José, is the only proper desert on the European continent. Spectacular and arid landscapes full of gullies and boulevards, the natural setting for numerous films. In it there are three western towns that served as sets for different films and that currently function as theme parks.
